GEOxyz is carrying out a geophysical site survey at ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia Two offshore wind farm site in the UK North Sea to collect seabed data at planned wind turbine locations.

The survey covers an area of approximately 218 square kilometers, located around 46 kilometers off England’s east coast. Operations are being conducted around the clock by GEOxyz’s 41.9-meter vessel Geo Ocean IV.

The vessel is using a hull-mounted multibeam echosounder to map seabed elevation and morphology and collect backscatter data.

According to a Notice to Mariners, adverse weather has extended the survey schedule, with completion now expected by October 30, weather permitting.

East Anglia Two is a 960 MW offshore wind farm set to comprise 64 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines installed on monopile foundations. Preparations for construction are progressing, with offshore work scheduled to start in 2027.

ScottishPower Renewables recently completed the installation of two ducts beneath the Suffolk coastline for the project’s export cables.

The offshore wind farm is expected to enter commercial operation in late 2028.

The post GEOxyz conducting seabed survey at UK offshore wind site first appeared on Onewave TV.

Subsea7 has awarded Worley Rosenberg a contract for the fabrication of key subsea structures and spools supporting the second phase of the Northern Lights carbon transport and storage project in Norway.

The scope includes the fabrication of subsea spools and structures for Northern Lights Phase II and follows Worley Rosenberg’s delivery of comparable subsea structures and spools for the project’s first phase in 2023.

“This award strengthens our position in the growing subsea market and further expands our role in delivering infrastructure that enables large‑scale CO2 reduction,” said Jan Narvestad, Managing Director of Worley Rosenberg.

“CCS will be a critical part of achieving global climate goals, particularly for industries where emissions are difficult to eliminate. Northern Lights is one of the most important CCS projects under development today. The award secures activity for our fabrication facilities and deepens our competitive reach in delivering infrastructure for the energy transition.”

To remind, the joint venture of Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies injected and stored the first CO2 volumes as part of the Northern Lights project in August 2025, marking the start of operations of what is said to be the world’s first third-party CO2 transport and storage facility.

The project’s first phase is part of Longship, the Norwegian Government’s full-scale carbon capture and storage project (CCS). Phase I is in operation from the Øygarden terminal outside Bergen.

The JV partners announced in March 2025 the final investment decision (FID) for the second phase, which will increase the project’s capacity from 1.5 million tons of CO2 per annum (mtpa) to more than 5 mtpa.

The post Subsea7 contracts Worley for Northern Lights’ key subsea structures first appeared on Onewave TV.

Minesto has performed a service intervention on its Dragon 4 tidal power plant in record time, carrying out the recovery, inspection, and redeployment offshore process in 48 hours, the Swedish ocean energy developer reported today, October 15.

Minesto revealed that, after years of improving the process, it had achieved its fastest turnaround to date, with a complete service intervention of a Dragon 4 power plant performed within 48 hours in Vestmannasund, Faroe Islands.

The intervention included recovery, extraction of the nacelle for inspection of the upgraded generator following its first ten weeks of operation, maintenance activities, reassembly, quality and functional checks, and redeployment offshore. The work was carried out during a low-production tidal period.

The ability to complete a full service operation and return the system to power production in only 48 hours demonstrates a key competitive advantage of our technology,” said Martin Edlund, Minesto’s CEO.

“High performance is important, but equally important is the ability to maintain the system cost efficiently. Notably, our method does not rely on sophisticated and expensive infrastructure, making it suitable for remote locations and areas of the world without port infrastructure and access to advanced marine engineering capabilities.”

Minesto notes that the central feature of the concept is the ability to swap subsystems, such as the nacelle, during short intervention campaigns. By using spare modules, more extensive inspections, maintenance activities and upgrades can be performed onshore without impact on availability and energy yield

The successful turnaround demonstrates both the maturity of the Dragon Technology and the efficiency of our operational procedures. Through long-term cooperation with our local contractor SJH Offshore, we have progressively refined our methods through repeated campaigns, and today we can perform advanced service interventions while keeping downtime to a minimum. This capability becomes increasingly valuable as we move towards larger commercial deployments and multi-unit installations,” said Bernt Erik Westre, CTO of Minesto.

The post Minesto reports ‘record’ 48-hour service intervention on its tidal power plant first appeared on Onewave TV.

The UK energy regulator Ofgem will launch a tender round covering the transmission infrastructure for Ørsted’s 2.9 GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm on 21 October.

The competition is estimated to be worth around GBP 3.5 billion (approximately EUR 4 billion), making it the largest Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) tender round to date.

The competitive process will seek an owner for the project’s offshore transmission assets, which carry electricity generated by the wind farm to the onshore grid.

Hornsea 3’s offshore transmission system comprises two offshore converter stations, which were installed by September 2026, and offshore export cables, the first of which was laid and pulled ashore at the beginning of this year. The transmission infrastructure also includes onshore cables and a converter station in Norfolk, connecting the wind farm to the national grid.Located around 120 kilometres off the Norfolk coast, Hornsea 3 will comprise 197 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines. Foundation installation began earlier this year, and inter-array cable installation is scheduled to start in October. The project is expected to enter operation in 2027.Ofgem’s previous tender round (Round 13) covered the transmission assets for East Anglia Three, Inch Cape and Dogger Bank C, with a combined estimated value of GBP 3.5 billion. With Round 14 for the Hornsea 3 assets estimated to be worth the same, this will be the largest OFTO competition to date, according to Ofgem.

The post Ofgem to Launch Record Tender as UK Regulator Seeks Owner of Hornsea 3 Offshore Transmission Assets first appeared on Onewave TV.

The association has adopted a new contractual addendum aimed at encouraging investment in energy-saving retrofits by addressing the commercial disconnect between shipowners paying for equipment and charterers benefiting from reduced fuel consumption. The Energy Saving Device Retrofit Addendum 2026 provides a framework for owners and charterers to agree how the costs, time implications and financial benefits of installing energy-saving technology should be shared during a time charter.Under traditional time charter arrangements, shipowners investing in fuel-saving equipment may see little direct financial return during a charter period, as charterers typically pay for bunkers and therefore benefit from reductions in fuel consumption. Charterers meanwhile are less incentivised to invest in energy saving technologies except where payback periods are significantly shorter than charters.

The new addendum addresses a long-standing commercial challenge. Energy-saving technologies have become increasingly sophisticated, but investments in retrofit projects have been complicated by a misalignment of commercial interests between owners and charterers,” said Stinne Taiger Ivø, Bimco deputy secretary general and director of contractual affairs.

The flexible addendum allows parties to negotiate arrangements appropriate to individual retrofit projects, adapting to specific investments and returns. The framework is technology-neutral, applicable to a range of energy-saving solutions, such as wind-assisted propulsion, hull modifications and other fuel-efficiency technologies.

The agreement comes as shipowners increasingly invest in energy-saving retrofits to reduce fuel costs and emissions. Fuel efficiency is a commercial advantage that grows in significance as fuel prices increase. Fuel prices have risen in the wake of disruption in the Middle East and are expected to increase further in the long term as the industry transitions to low carbon fuels.

The growth in wind-assisted propulsion and other efficiency technologies is also bringing greater attention to the measurement and verification of fuel savings. Reliable data will be key to enabling owners and charterers to negotiate how retrofit benefits should be shared.Bimco’s new addendum also provides a framework for addressing the implications of existing and future environmental regulations, it said, as the industry faces increasingly complex compliance obligations.

The EU Emissions Trading System and FuelEU Maritime have added new costs and incentives linked to vessel emissions and energy performance, while the UK has also expanded its emissions trading regime to domestic maritime activities.

Bimco has previously developed dedicated clauses addressing the allocation of emissions trading and FuelEU Maritime compliance responsibilities between contractual parties, including new clauses for ship sale and purchase agreements adopted in December 2025.

“The shipping industry is under increasing pressure to cut emissions and improve energy efficiency. Our objective has been to create a practical tool that can help unlock investments in retrofit solutions and support the industry’s decarbonisation efforts,” said Nicholas Fell, chairperson of Bimco’s Documentary Committee.
